In anticipation of the SEC’s rule changes for Section 16 reporting for foreign private issuers, filers may be looking for ways to prepare ahead of the official EDGAR 26.1 release. To facilitate the transition, Novaworks has released a beta version of GoFiler, which is currently available to GoFiler Complete users who would benefit from a testing environment.
The GoFiler beta allows filers to create Section 16 documents ahead of release, in both the new and old formats. Filers wishing to create older Section 16 files should simply leave the new fields blank. If a filer creates a new Section 16 file, they will not be able to file it to the SEC as the new system is not yet LIVE on its main website. However, they are now able to test file to the EDGAR beta system.
How to Obtain and Use the GoFiler Beta:
- Filers interested in test filing ahead of the official release should be sure to have an EDGAR beta/test account. To obtain access to the EDGAR Beta/Test environment, log in with current EDGAR credentials. Click here to enter the beta site.
- GoFiler Complete customers desiring to participate in the GoFiler beta are encouraged to contact Novaworks support at support@novaworkssoftware.com to obtain the download link along with any other instruction needed to get started.
- Once inside the beta environment, filers may create Section 16 filings and test file to the SEC’s beta.
EDGAR Release 26.1 is set for March 16th, and affected issuers are required to comply with the rulemaking on March 18, 2026.
