On July 20th, the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) staff issued a proposed Taxonomy Implementation Guide to provide filers with a simple and consistent way to use Financial Statement Location Dimensions (FSLDs) to help companies correctly tag amounts that appear across multiple financial‑statement captions, reducing confusion and improving consistency in XBRL filings.
The proposed guide also is intended to:
- guide XBRL filers in how to show the exact financial‑statement location of balances that don’t appear as standalone captions
- clarify when to use location dimensions versus extensible enumerations, and includes examples for the balance sheet, income statement, and other comprehensive income
Further details on the Financial Statement Location Dimensions: A Guide for Preparers proposed guide are available at fasb.org. Interested parties may submit email comments directly to the FASB through August 20, 2026. Please include File Reference Number 2026-2850 in the correspondence.
