On August 14th, the EDGAR Business Office issued a preview of the upcoming updates to the EDGAR system capabilities, technical specifications, and the draft EDGAR Filer Manual prior to the approaching EDGAR software release. The release is currently scheduled for September 14, 2026, and filers may review and test the expected EDGAR system changes in the EDGAR Beta Environment beginning August 31, 2026.
The publication offers the following preview of changes and links to resources for EDGAR Release 26.3:
- likely amendments to EDGAR technical specifications are now available, specifically new Draft Technical Specifications for Form 1 and ANE Exception Notices, as well as updates to technical specifications for SBS Entity Forms and Form 13F.
- a revised version of the FND (Fund) taxonomy, FND-2026q3, will be added. EDGAR also will be updated to disallow the following taxonomies: US GAAP/2024, SRT/2024, IFRS/2024; and the 2024 version of CEF, COUNTRY, CURRENCY, CYD, DEI, ECD, EXCH, FFD, FND, NAICS, OEF, RXP, SBS, SIC, SNJ, SRO, STPR and VIP taxonomies. Interim release versions FFD/2024q2, FND/2024q3, OEF/2024q3, RXP/2024q3, VIP/2024q4 taxonomies also will be disallowed.
Also available is the Draft/Forthcoming Version of EDGAR Filer Manual, Volume II, which includes expected updates related to:
- new online interfaces that will allow filers electronically to submit Form 1 and ANE Exception Notices
- changes to the submission templates for Forms 13F and 13F-CTR
- technical information related to the submission of XBRL data being removed and placed in the EDGAR XBRL Guide
While the preview is provided as a courtesy to the filing community, the SEC has not approved, may approve or disapprove, and may revise any of the planned changes noted.
