The SEC’s Division of Investment Management Analytics Office has released a new report of Registered Fund Statistics, which will provide significant industry data and information on trends over time. The report is based on compiled data reported on Form N-PORT by funds registered with the SEC and designed for a wide range of users. The new report is intended to provide the public with a consistent and comprehensive view into the registered funds industry, which is comprised of more than 12,000 funds and greater than $26 trillion in total net assets under management. On April 11th, the SEC announced that it has delayed the effective date for rules adopted in March 2024 under the Securities Act and Securities Exchange Act that require domestic and foreign registrants to include specific climate-related data in their annual reports and registration statements. The final rules require information about a registrant’s climate-related risks that have materially impacted, or are reasonably likely to have a material impact on, its business strategy, results of operations, or financial condition. On March 27th, the SEC adopted amendments to the “internet adviser exemption” rule, which allows certain investment advisers that provide investment advisory services through the internet to register with the SEC. In 2002, the SEC granted a narrow exception which allowed internet-based advisers to register with the SEC instead of with the states. The SEC proposed these rules in July 2023.
