FASB Releases Proposed Improvements to the 2027 SEC Reporting Taxonomy

On September 10th, the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) staff released proposed technical and other conforming enhancements for the 2027 SEC Reporting Taxonomy, along with related release notes for public review and comment. SEC Grants Exemptive Relief from Inline XBRL Requirements for CCO Reports and Selected Forms

In December 2024, the SEC adopted rules that required several filings to be submitted electronically and in Inline XBRL. These requirements applied to specific forms and items, including portions of Form CA‑1, Form 1, Form X‑17A‑5 Part III, Form 17‑H, and the CCO report. In its September 11, 2026 order, the SEC provides exemptive relief from the Inline XBRL requirement for those filings, excluding the audited financial statement exhibits in Form CA‑1 and Form 1. XBRL International Publishes First Public Working Draft Introducing Project Tavi

On September 2nd, XBRL International released its initial Public Working Draft of Project Tavi, the first public issuance of the next‑generation XBRL specification. Among other things, the draft was created to ensure that the specification progresses in step with real‑world reporting needs. XBRL International has released this draft to gather feedback from the global XBRL community, especially developers, taxonomy architects, and data-standard practitioners. GoFiler 6.6a Now Available

Version 6.6a of GoFiler has been released. This version corresponds to EDGAR Release 26.3 and contains changes and improvements for XBRL, including the new FND 2026q3 taxonomy, as well as updates to Form 13F and Section 16. Changes were also made to other EDGAR forms and to the proofing of most EDGAR forms to change how the software handles proofing an empty CCC field.

SEC Staff to Hold Roundtable on Preparations for 24-Hour Trading

SEC staff will host a public roundtable to discuss preparations for moving US equity markets toward 24‑hour trading, overnight operations, the opportunities and challenges of continuous trading, and how those measures would boost market resiliency. The event will take place on Thursday, September 17, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. ET, and is open for the public virtually to attend on the SEC’s site. Registration is required.

Labor Day

The SEC will be closed Monday, September 7th in observance of Labor Day. The EDGAR System will not receive, process or accept filings on this day. Filings with a due date of September 7th will be due the following business day. The FERC will be closed in observation of Labor Day. eForms will accept filings submitted on September 7th. SEC Proposes Amendments to Enhance Oversight of Registered Transfer Agents

On September 1st, the SEC proposed revisions to the rules and forms that regulate registered transfer agents, entities that represent an essential part of the US clearance and settlement framework. SEC Issues Guidance on Misuse of Tagging Elements in BDCs’ Statements of Operations

On August 27th, the SEC’s Division of Economic and Risk Analysis (DERA) completed an assessment of the tagging in Business Development Companies’ (BDCs’) consolidated statements of operations in Forms 10-K for fiscal year 2025. In conducting this assessment, staff noted several recurring issues in the way certain income and expense line items were tagged, indicating that many filers continue to apply elements that do not align with the structure of BDC financial statements. SEC Staff Issues Semi-Annual Report to Congress on Use of Machine-Readable Data

The SEC has published its semi-annual report to Congress regarding public and internal use of machine-readable data for corporate disclosures, in compliance with the Financial Data Transparency Act of 2022 (FDTA) signed into law in December 2022. The FDTA requires the SEC to submit this report to both the Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs of the Senate and the Committee on Financial Services of the House of Representatives every 180 days through December 23, 2029, when the provision requiring the report concludes. SEC Provides Preview of September 2026 EDGAR Release 26.3

On August 14th, the EDGAR Business Office issued a preview of the upcoming updates to the EDGAR system capabilities, technical specifications, and the draft EDGAR Filer Manual prior to the approaching EDGAR software release. The release is currently scheduled for September 14, 2026, and filers may review and test the expected EDGAR system changes in the EDGAR Beta Environment beginning August 31, 2026.
